Aftermarket Revenue
Revenue from replacement parts and consumables sold to an installed customer base.
Definition
Aftermarket revenue is the money earned after the initial equipment or system sale—filters, bags, belts, spare parts, and similar replenishment or repair items. For many parts merchants, this stream depends on knowing what customers own and making the correct SKU easy to repurchase.
Estimates of aftermarket opportunity should use transparent assumptions and subtract existing purchases so current demand is not double-counted. Modeled estimates are not forecasts.
Key points
- Depends on ownership context and fit accuracy.
- Often higher margin than first-time equipment sales, but not always.
- Opportunity models should label uncertainty and editable scenarios.
- Existing purchases should not be double-counted in opportunity estimates.
